I read something yesterday in the Minneapolis newspaper in the sports section that impressed me and I want to tell share it with you. Now I know many of you perhaps aren't highly interested in sports but this is about leadership. Minnesota has a NBA team that isn't very good right now because of it's youth and inexperience. A guy named Kevin Garnett has re-joined the team and people in the know say that he will be in the NBA Hall of Fame in due time.
Kevin Garnett isn't just a basketball player, he's a leader and has been known for his leadership for many years. There is lots of excitement in Minnesota that KG is back. It's amazing to me how one person can make such a difference before he's even played one game. But it has happened.
One the very young players made this comment: "He has really created a lot of excitement.... it's the way he talks, he just makes people want to do more." That is an interesting comment because this young guy wasn't impressed with what he said, but he said it's "the way he talks...." He talks with confidence, he has belief and he works incredibly hard at practice every day - and he's 38 years old and this team is loaded with 19 and 20 yr old players. He is leading by example.
How do we talk to people in our business? Some people think it's the WHAT that's important. So they give lots of details. It's isn't always WHAT we say, but HOW we say it. When we think and talk with confidence and belief in others as well as ourselves, then people seem to want to do more. If you want people to do more then maybe the question is....HOW do I talk to my downline? How's my belief? How is my confidence? Do they see me working hard building this business? Think about it.
Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke
