I doubled my volume in one month!

Here is a great success story about Ashley, a young new mom who joined Shaklee a couple of years ago. Ashley is working part-time in her business and in January DOUBLED her organization volume from 7,500 to 15,000. There is a NEW WAVE of growth taking place in Shaklee today and it's happening primarily in the 25-45 year old age bracket. While some of the tools being used are new (social media for example), what's not new is HOW it's getting done-- setting goals, doing appointments, having meetings and events, and sponsoring new members and builders.
The Fundamentals of the Business

I learned about Shaklee over two years ago. My husband and I both have nutrition backgrounds, so the company’s products and research as well as its history were attractive to us.

Once I began using Shaklee products I knew I had made the right decision. And I also lost weight with Shaklee 180® and won the Healthy Competition. My Shaklee business grew organically through sharing my story. And as my business grew I discovered that I was really passionate about walking others through healthy lifestyle and business journeys.

Inspired by one of my team members, Rachel Tabor, I hosted an online event in Facebook promoting Shaklee 180 and the “In for 10” Challenge. I called it the “New Year, New You” Event, and using video and testimonials I shared the Shaklee 180 program, focusing on the program kits.

I gave out prizes for participation – which helped the event stay at the top of participant timelines and kept the momentum going. I also offered a special price for people purchasing one of the Shaklee 180® kits during the event.

From that event, I sponsored 15 new Members and generated 2300 personal volume in one day. In the month of January, I doubled my organizational volume from 7500 to 15000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also created private Facebook accountability groups for the people who joined with Shaklee 180, called “Better Together.” The idea was to create a safe space to help people to stick with the program on a daily basis. I stay connected with the group by posting pictures; tips and motivation that will help them stay on track. My ultimate goal is to help people shift their “why” from weight loss to lifestyle change. The private nature of the group allows people to be vulnerable and receive the support they need on their journey. And it helped me to follow up with 20 of my members at once.

I also offered a referral incentive in my group -- $15 in Shaklee products for a referred Member sponsored with a Lean and Healthy kit and $30 in Shaklee products for Turnaround™ kit. From those referrals, I got eight new Members and recently started a new “Better Together” Group!

Overall, I have 20 Members on AutoShip and five of my new Members reordered products within the same month they joined, showing me that there is a lot of commitment to the program.

This is just the start for me. I have some pretty big goals for myself. I will be an Executive Coordinator by June and a Senior Executive Coordinator by December…and I am confident that I am well on my way!

Is it WHAT or HOW?

I read something yesterday in the Minneapolis newspaper in the sports section that impressed me and I want to tell share it with you. Now I know many of you perhaps aren't highly interested in sports but this is about leadership.   Minnesota has a NBA team that isn't very good right now because of it's youth and inexperience. A guy named Kevin Garnett has re-joined the team and people in the know say that he will be in the NBA Hall of Fame in due time.

Kevin Garnett isn't just a basketball player, he's a leader and has been known for his leadership for many years. There is lots of excitement in Minnesota that KG is back. It's amazing to me how one person can make such a difference before he's even played one game. But it has happened.

One the very young players made this comment: "He has really created a lot of excitement.... it's the way he talks, he just makes people want to do more."    That is an interesting comment because this young guy wasn't impressed with what he said, but he said it's "the way he talks...." He talks with confidence, he has belief and he works incredibly hard at practice every day - and he's 38 years old and this team is loaded with 19 and 20 yr old players. He is leading by example.

How do we talk to people in our business? Some people think it's the WHAT that's important. So they give lots of details. It's isn't always WHAT we say, but HOW we say it. When we think and talk with confidence and belief in others as well as ourselves, then people seem to want to do more. If you want people to do more then maybe the question is....HOW do I talk to my downline?   How's my belief? How is my confidence?  Do they see me working hard building this business? Think about it.

Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke

A great example

I received the following short message from Sandy Dietrich who is a very strong sales leader. When I first read her comments I thought: this is the kind of attitude it takes to build a highly successful business. Sandy has a very busy life but that isn't going to stop her from doing what she knows she needs to be doing. Sandy has made a decision that is going to pay off for her in the months and years to come as she is determined to make it work. Enjoy!

Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke

Gary,

Jo was here last weekend. Was great! 16 people attended our business training. I have 5 in-homes on the calendar so far…....I have determined that life isn’t going to slow down for a long time, so I may as well get to work and fit Shaklee into the nooks and crannies!

That way I can be doing more of the things I love sooner, and when I have to slow down, I have the life we want!

Blessings!

Don't listen to those who don't encourage you

The following are true examples of people who had a dream but faced the obstacle of criticism from others. I found the following quotes in UNSTOPPABLE by Cynthia Kersey, which contains stories of people who are powerful examples of perseverance and triumph.

"Liquidate the business right now and recoup whatever cash you can.  If you don't you'll end up penniless."
The attorney of cosmetic tycoon Mary Kay Ash, weeks before she opened her first store

"It's a cutthroat business and you've got no chance for success."
Accountant for Estee Lauder, founder of a multibillion dollar cosmetics empire

"You can't play the piano, and God knows you can't sing. You'd better learn how to weave chairs so you can support yourself."
A comment by one of Ray Charles' teachers.

"You're foolish to try to sell sparkling water in the land of Coca-Cola drinkers."
Advice given to Gustave Lenen by several consulting firms' when hearing about his plans to launch Perrier in the United States.

"A global, twenty-four-hour news network will never work."
- Network executive's response to Ted Turner's plan for CNN.

"There's no market for it. If there were, major airlines would already be offering it. You won't be able to find reliable couriers."
- Advisors to Fred Smith, founder of Federal Express.

"You went to college for 6 years and you're going to do that?"  (Not in the book)
Comment made to Gary Burke as he was starting his Shaklee business. We have built a great lifestyle and have earned in excess of $13 million in Shaklee.

I made up my mind to find out what was true and what wasn't. I wasn't going to allow friends, relatives or anyone else steal my dream. I had a job, but I wanted a future. Shaklee has exceeded everything I thought was possible. This is an awesome business for those willing to ignore negativity and step out and work hard and chase their dream.

It's a process - the same process as always

The following is a message from Rod Larkin as a follow up to a message about getting started. I certainly agree with Rod as this business hasn't changed in terms of what it is we have to do to experience growth. This is the kind of message many of you might consider printing out and reading when you have questions about what is it a person has to do to create growth.

Gary Burke
Hi,

Taking action-- some kind, any kind, of action is the only thing that produces results and we are only paid for the PV RESULTS our business produces.  Where does PV come from?  We all know the answer to that question-- people using Shaklee products in their home.

How many times does one need to hear, read, see and go over the 7 Key Steps for building this business before they take action and do the work?  "If I just see it or hear it one more time--- then I'll be ready to start."  The fundamental steps for building this business have never changed-- never.   EVERYONE knows and is familiar with these 7 steps.  BUT-- we often spend our time in the non-PV producing areas of thegetting ready phase and taking aim phase.  The bummer to that is we don't get paid for time spent there.  We don't get paid by the number of hours we work, we get paid by the amount of PV PRODUCING WORK we do.

3 Phases of The 7 Key Steps

Getting READY Phase
1.  Set GOALS with an action plan
2.  Make a COMMITMENT of the time, effort, and money you'll invest each week in building your business

Taking AIM Phase
3 . Make a LIST of people you will contact

FIRE!  The Action Phase
4.  CONTACT people from your list
5.  PRESENT the opportunity and the products to new people
6.  SPONSOR new members  and distributors
7.  TEACH/TRAIN your new distributors how to build with the 7 Key Steps

In order for ANY results to be taking place, ALL of your time must be spent in the ACTION PHASE doing the IPAs-INCOME PRODUCING ACTIVITIES

There isn't one more tool we need to be successful. There isn't one more product we need-- we have more than most companies in our industry have.  There is only one thing we do need--- ACTION on our part--- not others part.  Waiting for someone else to take action is a killer.  When we take action--- others start taking action.  That's just how it works.

It's about taking action and putting your paddle in the water so you can get somewhere beyond where you are "floating" right now.  If you aren't paddling, you aren't moving.

A Message from Jim Rohn

I'm sending this message early because I will not be sending another message until I get my computer back as it needs some fixing up by the Geek Squad.   It might be a few days.

Don’t Wait Until Tomorrow
by Jim Rohn
The problem with waiting until tomorrow—to do anything—is that when it finally arrives, it is called today. Today is yesterday's tomorrow, so the question is this: What did we do with its opportunity? All too often, we will waste tomorrow as we wasted yesterday… and as we are wasting today. All that could have been accomplished can easily elude us, despite our intentions, until we inevitably discover that the things that might have been have slipped from our embrace a single, unused day at a time.

Each of us must pause frequently to remind ourselves that the clock is ticking. The same clock that began to tick from the moment we drew our first breath will also someday cease.
Time is the great equalizer of all mankind. It has taken away the best and the worst of us without regard for either. Time offers opportunity but demands a sense of urgency.

When the game of life is finally over, there is no second chance to correct our errors. The clock that is ticking away the moments of our lives does not care about winners and losers. It does not care about who succeeds or who fails. It does not care about excuses, fairness or equality. The only essential issue is how we played the game.

Regardless of a person's age, there is a sense of urgency that should drive them into action now—this very moment. We should be constantly aware of the value of each and every moment of our lives—moments that seem so insignificant that their loss often goes unnoticed.

We still have all the time we need. We still have lots of chances, lots of opportunities, lots of years to show what we can do. There will be a tomorrow, a next week, a next month and a next year. But unless we develop a sense of urgency, those brief windows of time will be sadly wasted, as were the weeks and months and years before them. There isn't an endless supply.

So as you think of your dreams and goals of your future “tomorrow,” take those very important first steps to making them all come to life… today.

Come to Cleveland!!

I just returned from a Master Coordinator Growth Summit in Pleasanton where we were treated to a snapshot of some of the plans that are in the works for the August Convention in Cleveland. If you want to enjoy good Shaklee fun, be motivated about the future, or get re-energized about building a Shaklee business - BE THERE!!!!

Clint McKinlay, who is VP of Field Marketing & Training, has been collaborating with a great representation of Shaklee Leaders to develop a program you won't want to miss. Clint has brought fresh ideas and our own Shaklee field reps are ensuring that the special events and workshops will be designed to help us launch successfully into the fall of 2015.

If you have a spouse and were thinking about just coming yourself - don't - get him or her there with you. Bring other people with you.

For many of you in our organization, Cleveland could be driving distance. Pile some people in your car, bunk up in a couple of rooms to make it financially feasible. Rent a bus. YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID!

This is a message you'll want to save

This is the kind of message every new person or anyone who wants to get started again and make things happen should save and read about once a month. I suggest you print this out, read it carefully and then save it so you can read it again. Thanks to Kelli Abrahamian for sending this great article to me. You’re Never Going to Be Fully Ready
by

On the very best summer days, the beach at our family’s cottage collects boats all day long—little ones and big ones, friends and family, friends of friends. The day starts quietly and then all of a sudden there is music and someone is grilling and boats are rafted off.

Everyone takes turns on jet skis and paddleboards, and we make sandcastles and jump off the boat a million times in a row. There’s always a fun and crazy puzzle of people.

On one of these summer days last August, a friend of a friend of someone wanted to try paddle boarding for the first time. Her name was possibly Caitlyn. Or Kate. Kathy? It’s a loose operation, clearly.

We gave her the one-minute speech.

Start on your knees, no shame in falling, don’t go out too far, avoid the jet skis. But the next thing I knew, she was really far out. My son Henry and I paddled out to her, and I asked if she needed help.

I can stand up, she said. But then I can’t get stable, and I can’t start paddling till I get stable.

I totally get it, I said. But here’s the thing: it’s the paddling that makes you stable, not the other way around. You’ll never stay up unless you start paddling.

I’m thinking of this now, in a snowstorm, worlds away from that hot summer day, because of a conversation we had around our table recently.

A friend of ours was talking.

She was sharing about all the things she is trying to figure out, arrange in her mind, make a plan for, make sense of. She said, “There are so many things I want to do this year, and I realize that I’ve been trying to think it all through for so long. But you know what? I’ll never have all the information. I’ll never know all there is to know about something. Sometimes you just have to act.”

Exactly that. One thousand times that. Sometimes you just have to act.

Because it’s the paddling that keeps you on the board. It’s the forward motion that gives you the stability you need. Sometimes we just have to pick a direction and start pulling that paddle through the water, and along the way we’ll get the stability and confidence we’re looking for. But you’ll never find it at the beginning, standing there, waiting for the waves to stop shaking the board. The waves never stop shaking the board.

Forward motion brings stability.

I’ve come back to Voltaire’s words a million times: Perfect is the enemy of the good.

You’ll never feel totally ready. The plan will never be perfectly formed. You’ll never have the money you think you need or the support you wish you had. You’ll never feel as strong and prepared as everyone else seems. (Psst: they’re not that strong and prepared, either. No one is.)

Just paddle, because that’s what gives you what you need to stay afloat. Paddle, because forward motion allows you to steer, to turn, to head into a wave, or away from one. Paddling is what puts you in charge of the situation, instead of being at the mercy of the waves, waiting for stability that will never come.

No one feels ready.

No one has every last thing they need. But the people who change their lives, the people who make beautiful things, the people who make a difference in our world—they are the people who paddle, who are willing to do it badly, who give up perfect in favor of good.

Another gem: anything worth doing is worth doing badly. That’s Chesterton, who I just adore. (I read Orthodoxy every year and find a dozen new treasures every time.)

What do you need to start doing badly, instead of pretending that there will be some magic moment when you are able to do it perfectly?

It’s time to paddle.

So what does it look like for you to just start paddling today?

What have you been over-thinking, wiggling like a loose tooth? Are you hiding, planning, and information gathering, because you’re scared to plunge into something new?

Are you letting your desire to do it flawlessly keep you from doing it at all?

Here’s to paddling imperfectly—badly, even. It’s what keeps us afloat.

Explosive growth is possible - what's your message?

Simple principles have the most power when someone makes a commitment to do whatever it takes to build an organization.

The right actions are what will eventually show results in your business growth.

The point I want to make is not just for sponsoring but for building an organization. There is horizontal sponsoring, which means one person is doing the work sponsoring people.   There is also vertical sponsoring, which means there could be several people who were originally sponsored by an upline who wants to build an organization and who are also are sponsoring new people.Vertical sponsoring has the potential for explosive growth. That's right, explosive growth.

For years our monthly sponsoring brought in 30 to 40 new people every month, month after month, year after year. When you have 4 or 5 people each bringing in 5 to 8 new people every month, the numbers grow pretty quickly. I can assure you that I was not doing the sponsoring. We found a few people who wanted what Shaklee offered and our message was it will take vertical sponsoring to make it happen.

Our message was about building an organization. We don't want people to think they have to be the only one working to sponsor new people for their business to grow. Do you want explosive growth in your business? What message are you sending to people in your downline? Sell, sponsor or build? Our message was to build and we don't want anyone to think and believe they have to be the only person doing the work.   Vertical sponsoring is explosive. Think about it over the weekend.

Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke

It's about meetings

This message is about meetings and what they can mean for those who attend on a regular basis.

I have no idea how people can have a true vision of what this business is about without meetings. My opinion is simple: meetings are at the the heart of what it's going to take to become what you're capable of becoming and to build the kind of business you want.

Why attend meetings on a regular basis?1.  To get a reminder of what this business is all about.
2. To help you to stay energized.
3. To put yourself in a growth environment.
4. To learn about the products and compensation plan.
5. To develop relationships.
6. To celebrate the success of others!

Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke

Ashley's Story

Special thanks to Rod Larkin for the below - terrific! It's happening!

Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke

Hello!

Below is [Ashley's] whole story she just posted today and a link to a 2 minute video clip of her story on Shaklee.tv:

The Shaklee opportunity is for real and will work for anyone who is willing to commit to working consistently at it and follow a proven system of action and activity.

Who do you know that would like to get the kind of results and benefits that Ashley has received from building a successful Shaklee business?

My Shaklee Story- Ashley McDonald

I signed up with Shaklee over two years ago after being completely sold with the research & products -I bought a business kit before ever trying products!

It was slow going at first because I lacked confidence and truthfully I didn’t know how to manage my time. Even with "slow going" we were able to put ALL our Shaklee earnings into a savings and contribute over $6,000 to our down payment for our first home. After some very hard times for my family, including the surgery that left me thinking I could never have children, I gained a lot of weight. Blame depression, giving up or whatever - then one day I woke up, looked in the mirror and felt my rock bottom. I decided in that moment that I was going to do a few things. I was going to USE this Shaklee 180 (which was just launched two months prior) and I was going to get serious with Shaklee. One of two things happened, first - the Shaklee 180 worked!! Despite my fears, I was losing weight and getting into a shape I never thought possible. Two - I was sharing about it and people were listening! My business started to take off as people joined me - merely for sharing my honest to God story. That was my first year in Shaklee.

Now it was real. I knew that this was not a scam. This was real and real things could happen just by opening my mouth! And I was starting to dream – Here are my Shaklee Milestones:

August 2013 - I went to my first Shaklee conference (as a recently promoted Director) in Nashville where my husband and I were asked to speak about social media – what?? How could we possibly be "Social Media Experts" just by sharing our story?!
October 2013 - I won the Healthy Competition and was sent to San Francisco for an all expense paid trip including photo shoot & clothes.
October 2013 - I found out I was pregnant!
November 2013 - we went to Chicago for regionals and told all our Shaklee family that a miracle had happened – we were expecting after being told we couldn’t have children!
December 2013– Promotion to Senior Directors & we earned our Car Bonus. We went out & bought a 2014 Jeep…something that would fit our growing family.
March 2014 - Shaklee wanted to hear my story so they sent us to NY - all expense paid AGAIN!
April 2014– Promotion to Coordinators J
May 2014 - New Directors Conference (any builder can earn this) ANOTHER all expense paid trip in Napa. Full of training & meeting others who shared my dream of living a life that LIT US UP!
June 2014 – I had Baylor!
July 2014 - Promotion to coordinator
August 2014 - our second Shaklee conference and our first time showing off baby Baylor. We were sitting front and center as VIP guests for being TOP TEN EARNERS!
September 2014 – Promotion to Senior Coordinator
December 2014 - All expense paid trip to Mexico for our hard work as a business - this trip we got to take Baylor.
January 2015 – Absolute best month in Shaklee hitting our highest volume ever!

Overall, I made enough for me to have built a successful private practice (with all the start up fees and no income for over a year – as typical businesses go) AND stay home with my sweet boy for 7 months. Now I have gone back to work since my husband quit his job to build his dream – personal training business. This too would not be possible without the income of Shaklee. And on top of this, we have paid off over $10,000 in debt and paid for an absolutely beautiful wedding. But, of all the magical treatment we have received for merely sharing something we believe in, I was able to have a baby! Shaklee saved my life.

Point blank – this company is one of the best things that has ever happened to me!

Laura Evans' first anniversary of her Shaklee business

The following is a message from Laura Evans about her first year in Shaklee as a sales leader.  As you know, when Laura was with the home office she was an advocate for the people in the field and was a field favorite. For the past year she has been one of us and as you will see as you read her comments, she has had a very meaningful year. Way to go Laura!

Gary Burke

Hi Gary!

I thought you would enjoy my first year in review. I LOVE my Shaklee business! I have so many stories to share with you of how God is working in my life and others. Such as a funny story of how someone referred me to dad of fellow basketball teammate of son who really wanted to buy some Shaklee product and guess who that dad was? Pastor of my church!!!   So I had a chance to visit with and personally thank all of the pastoral staff for their service and also share with them what God is doing in my life.

Here is the audio file from a call which Roland interviewed me on my first year anniversary.
http://images.shaklee.com/library/LauraMAHMACall-ED-SE.mp3

Some facts of my first year in review:
105 new people introduced to Shaklee within my personal group. Each with great stories about improved quality of life

The Power of One Event

Thanks to Rod Larkin for sending me this message and thank you to Colleen Wagner for leading the way and being an example.  I strongly suggest you scroll all the way down and read this entire message.

There are some basic fundamentals to building and earning more income and this message is a terrific example.    Learn and enjoy.

Gary Burke
 Greetings!

I got a call from Colleen Wagner last week telling me about this event and I asked her to shoot me an email with the results so I could share them with our team as PROOF of the power of doing events-- meetings, in-homes, etc...

We are in a business that requires and thrives on proof.  Showing a copy of a bonus check or a 1099 shows proof of the money you can make.  Doing a simple product demonstration is proof that our products work and perform.  Sharing the results of a meeting you did-- be it meeting at a hotel,or restaurant, a conference call or webinar meeting, or an in-home meeting in your home or in the home of one of your downline like this one Colleen did-- shows proof that BIG things can happen from a single event that can make a HUGE difference in your business!

In our Monday night TST webinar (just last night), guess what we talked about in the business training?  Doing meetings-- how important they are for your business, why you need to do them, the different meeting venues there are, the different types of meetings and events you can do etc... The next morning (today) I get this email from Colleen showing the proof!

Here is the best kind of proof we all look for and want to have in our business-- VOLUME GROWTH= INCOME GROWTH!  In November, Wagner's PGV was 5574.  In December it grew to 6609.  In January, their PGV was 8767!

Congratulations Colleen & Mike Wagner and thanks for sharing your results/proof with us!

Rod Larkin

Hi Rod,
The numbers are in for the event I did for one of our members  on the Jan. 23rd:
• 13 guests attended
• 6 became members- 5 got their membership  free with one of the join free offers
• 1108.30 PV!

The member I did this event for had sponsored with a free membership in July and she upgraded to Gold after the event!

I have had 3 new member followup appointments and 1 conversation on the phone so far with 4 of the 6 who joined. I will be meeting with the other 2 in a couple weeks. The 3 I met with want to try either the Get Clean caddy or skin care system that I offer to them as members in our Shaklee family. The one I spoke with on the phone wants a call this week to talk a bit more about 180 and plans to order part or maybe all of the 180 system this week!

In-home events are what we used 13 years ago to become a Director in one month, and they are still a GREAT part of our business today!

Something to think about

I heard a guest speaker at church last week make an interesting comment. I'm sure you have heard people talk about vision and how important it is for making progress in whatever it is you want to do.  Vision is about having a clear picture in your mind for having a better tomorrow.   In other words vision is about the future.  The following is what I heard:
"Sight is a function of our eyes.  Vision is a function of the heart."
- Dr. Dale Bronner

For some reason I just can't seem to get that simple comment out of my mind because it makes sense to me. Another way to think about this is: what do you have your heart set on? Education for your kids or grandchildren, a new home, to live debt free, to have 10,000 PV, to be a Master Coordinator, to retire with no financial problems? Have you given thought lately about your future and what you want it to look like down the road?

Keep in mind that everything starts as an idea. When I reflect back to my start in this business it seemed like every week I heard a good idea that was inspiring to me. The more I heard Shaklee leaders teach about this business the more I thought about the kind of future we could have with this opportunity. I met many successful people at meetings I attended and that helped me to believe we also could make it work.

What happened was simple. I started to have a vision in my heart that we could have a large business. I started to think differently and started to make priorities about what I would do to build this business. Clarity of a vision basically helps to clarify priorities. Do you have a vision in your heart about what you really want? Establish your priorities and then follow through with consistent effort.   Think about it!

Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke
