Hey, this week is the Masters Golf event. Tiger is back! Yea Tiger, go get em! Bubba Watson, a two time winner of the Masters, made the following comment in the newspaper yesterday: “Golf is really easy when you free it up. It’s very difficult when you’re not thinking properly.”
The first thing that came to mind when I read that is this business is easy when we keep it simple, but it’s very difficult when we’re not thinking properly. I am a golfer, let me also say that I’m not a very good golfer, especially when I’m set to hit the ball and I have thoughts running through my mind like, “Get set up, be more upright, slow backswing, cock wrists, follow through, I’m ready, I hope this is better than my last shot.” Yikes!
Yes, I believe this business is very simple. Our thoughts are what stops us from doing what we’re capable of doing. I say that because I recall very vividly the many, many times I would have negative thoughts come to mind. “What if they aren’t interested? Maybe they aren’t home, I’ll call later. What should I say? What if they are interested and ask me what to do? What if they ask some questions?” Is my presentation good enough? I think many of you can relate with some of these comments.
As far as I’m concerned, our job is to learn by repetition. We just have to be willing to do the fundamentals over and over and over. I guarantee you will get better. I would love to have my first 10 to 30 opportunity presentations recorded - we all could have a few laughs.
GO TIGER!
Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke
