My personal business-growing tips- Bonnie Donahue

I asked Bonnie Donahue if she would take some time to outline what she has done to grow her business because she has done an exceptional job as a leader and builder of this business the past couple of years. March was her biggest month ever with 43,000 OV.  As you will see as you go through what Bonnie has put together, she is a very busy young mother. I'm sure you will enjoy what Bonnie has put together to describe her view of the business and what she has accomplished with her terrific team.   Bonnie just broke out another Senior Coordinator in her downline and we congratulate the Donahue team for leading the way and being examples.

Hi Gary,

I have been actively in business since January 2010.  I work part-time hours and consider my full-time job to be a Mommy to my kids ages 8,6,4, and 1.  I started my business to share products and a company that I loved and felt passionate about.  I believe in everything that Shaklee stands for and this business fit in with our lifestyle.  I can give my family products from the #1 natural nutrition company and create a passive income from home doing something that feels right.

Today, I wanted to share some tricks and tips with you.

I hope you find them helpful.


Don’t sell Shaklee.  Live it!

First off, you can’t sell a product that you are not personally using.  If you own a Shaklee business, you need to buy from yourself.  NO ONE will buy from you if you don’t!  BUT let’s go deeper than that.  People often tell me that they didn’t just order Shaklee from me because I sell it, they buy it from me because I LIVE it!  Does that make sense?  I use ALL the product lines and have for almost half my life.  We are a Shaklee family and enjoy a Shaklee lifestyle and people are looking for that.  So if you want to be successful, use the products!!  Plus, you will have AMAZING HEALTH BENEFITS and get paid on your own orders….SCORE!



Fall in love with the process.

That’s what this business is….a process!  I never looked at this opportunity as a get-rich deal or even a fast building career (although there are a lot of people earning $100K in 15 months).  I knew right from the beginning that this is a process and I was okay with that.  In fact, I liked that about it because there was no pressure.  I could go at my own pace and know that my business is still growing.  I knew time was going to pass anyway so I might as well build a business on the side to have forever.

Create a goal (short and long term).

I was not very good at “goal” setting.  The successful people are always talking about it and I always thought goals were for other people.  Not me.  I was the exception.  The truth is, I didn’t know how powerful goal setting can be.  Once I actually starting setting goals, I actually starting reaching them….kinda funny, huh?  Now, I like to make yearly, monthly, weekly, and even daily goals.  These help me stay on track and it helps me save time.  I don’t need to spend time thinking about what I need to do, I can just do it and check it off the list.

Know your WHY.

You have heard this before.  Your WHY should make you CRY!  Well, it’s true.  You need to know WHY you are in business.  You want to help others, create a passive income, build a retirement plan…..but WHY!!!  WRITE IT DOWN and READ IT OUT-LOUD!! Once, you figure out why you want to do something, the rest takes care of itself in a sense.

Love what you do.

You can’t stay in something forever if you hate it.  I plan on sharing Shaklee for the rest of my life because I love it.  I would do this for free….that is how much I love it.  I don’t know what it is, but when I start talking about Shaklee’s products, our founder (Dr. Shaklee), our owner (Roger Barnett), the company, the future, our team, health, etc….I light up!!  I just get excited and can talk about this for hours!! Seriously…. I drive my husband crazy, lol!

Get to work.

You actually need to get to work.  Just because you have a personal Shaklee website, does not mean the orders and going to start flying in. You do need to work!  I work very hard.  It’s simple but it takes work.  If this was easy, everyone would be doing it.  Ask any business owner if their first 5 years in business were easy. I am guessing it was one of the hardest things they ever did. This is business.  It’s not easy but if you consistently do the work, you will see results.

Grow personally.

I don’t know anyone, in any business, that can create a successful business without working on personal development. It is one of the most rewarding things you can do for yourself and is the key to success.  Before I started my Shaklee business, I was 26 with 3 kids at home with me and I felt like I knew everything I needed to know.  I was soooo wrong!  Once I started some business and personal development training, my life changed!  I became in love with personal development and I still am.

Grow some more.

Just because you read a few books, listened to some mp3s, or went to a conference, that does not mean you are done growing.  You are never done!   You can never learn enough.  I feel like I am just a beginner with all this but I will continue to educate myself.  It’s part of the process.

Get involved with your team.

Your Shaklee team plays a huge roll in your success, so take advantage of your team’s training and meetings.  Make sure you listening to Shaklee and your team's calls and going to all events!  Your team will follow what you do so lead by example!

Build a team.

You need a team to really grow your business in Shaklee.  Sure, you can earn a bonus without ever talking about the business but why would you not want to share something this awesome?

It’s not about you.

Your business is not about you.  WHAT?  Let me say that again.  Your business is NOT ABOUT YOU!!!  In fact, it’s the opposite.  In Shaklee, the only way you can grow your business is buy helping other people get healthier and/or wealthier.  Sounds cliche but it’s true.  I wouldn’t even have a business if I didn’t help other families get healthier or help other stay at home mom’s create a paycheck. You see, you can’t grow without helping others.

Share Shaklee.

“Shaklee products only has two flaws. They can’t walk and they can’t talk.  That’s your job.”  Dr. Shaklee.  You cannot have a successful Shaklee business if people don’t know you have a business.  This sounds obvious but you can’t be afraid to share your business. Clearly, if you are scared, you are only thinking of yourself and not what you can offer.  Stop thinking and open you mouth and EARS!!  You also need to LISTEN to people.  You can’t help someone if you don’t know what is wrong.  Get it.

Don’t quit.

The ONLY way to fail in Shaklee is to quit.  If you know your WHY and follow all these steps, you can be successful.  I truly believe that.  You can do it!
