It's worth the fight

The following are some quotes I found years ago that inspired me. The reason I've saved these quotes was to me this is an attitude business. As everyone knows, there are positive attitudes and of course there are negative attitudes.

Positive attitudes precede positive results.

Pessimistic people always have a perfectly logical reason for their lack of success.

Attitudes can spoil when we  spend too much time with negative people.

I personally don't want to spend to much time talking about what is wrong with this or that.   I like to hang out with people who are positive, fun, and talk about the future and how to make progress. At times I enjoy thinking and talking outside the box, trying to come up with new positive ideas. The fundamentals of this business don't change, but we can figure out different ways to use the fundamentals.

For example, prospecting is a major fundamental for growth. Everyone knows that. But there are always new ideas for finding new people. New questions to ask. Think about it. Stay positive. At times it takes work but it's worth the fight to stay positive.

A great message - why not you?

The message below is a response from Danie Kempf from a message I sent last week.  I suggest you read Danie's comments carefully and see if you might do what she decided to do to grow her business.

Gary,

This message really hits home for me today. My business has been in a rut for several months and I am going back to the basics of how I started...hosting events and talking with as many people as I can. I am also working to encourage my first builders to put more time and action into their own business because you are right...I can't build this business on my own. This is definitely my number 1 goal for these next couple months. Go back to the basics, get uncomfortable every day to push myself to grow, and love on the people that are existing customers.

So, thank you for this amazing reminder of what is a no-fail key to success!

What if?

Yesterday's message was about goals. One simple but powerful principle says that goals help to create change. What do I want to change? I wonder how many of you actually gave thought to what you really want to change?

Here is something to think about if you want your business to change: make a decision to sponsor more people into your organization.

What you can do as an individual is limited.

What you can do through duplication is unlimited.

I wonder what could happen if everyone who reads this decided to work at sponsoring for a couple months? Why not? New people are always the answer to growth in this business. It doesn't matter what problem you might have. I guarantee you that new people will inspire and motivate you to build a business that has unlimited potential.

Some thoughts about goals

I did a Goal Achievement seminar in 1986 and I've been going through my notes. The following are ideas about goals:
  • Goals are a mechanism for moving forward.
  •  Personal goals help people to think about the future.
  •  Goals help to create change.  What do I want to change?
  •  Goals help to define what's important to you.
Reaching goals is not the hard part.  The toughest part of setting goals is deciding what you really want. Once you know exactly what you want, it's easy to get committed and to never let up your efforts until you have achieved that goal.

What do you think?  Do you know exactly what you want?

What do you really want?

This will be a short but very thoughtful message as hopefully it will make you think. I found the following in a book I read a few years ago. It made me think then and it makes me think today.

If you don't go after what you want, you'll never get it.

If you don't ask , the answer is always "No!"

If you don't step forward, you're always going to be in the same place.

To make progress in this business we must go after what it is we want, and ask questions as well as committing to move forward.

Simple.

Do you have clear goals?

There has been many books and articles written about goals and goal setting and goal achievement. The experts, whoever they are, obviously think they make a difference but they also say that most people hope and wish for things to be different but that isn't setting goals.

I have read many of those articles and books and have learned from experience that having clear goals make a difference. Well-defined goals become like a magnet because they seem to pull people in a certain direction.

I found the following in a book by one of the experts. I don't recall the name but I do recall being inspired by these thoughts.
Clear Goals Do 4 Things:
1. They define what's important.
2. They give us a clear direction of what to do.
3. They help to focus our efforts and stay on the path.
4. They create excitement.

So, based on those four thoughts, what's important to you?  Do you feel you have a clear direction to follow? Where is your focus? Are you excited about what you want to become?

To think about

I have been looking back in my many pages of notes that I have accumulated over the years for ideas that inspired me and helped me be consistent with my efforts.

  • What do I have to change in order to make better progress?
  • For things to change, I must change.
  • If I don't like how things are going, change it.
  • If my business isn't big enough, change it.
  • If I'm not earning enough, change it.
  • If I'm not committed, change it.
  • If I don't have new people coming into our business, change it.
  • I have to watch my thinking.
With commitments will always be responsibility.  I accept the responsibility to make this business grow.

What is needed for success

I think without question that the next few years are going to be great years for anyone who has a desire to change their life by moving their business forward. I am 100% convinced.  It all starts with belief; if we have this belief, we need new thinking, new behaviors, and new goals.

I want to pass along some ideas about goal setting and goal achievement that I learned from reading many books and applying them for myself.

GOAL SETTING & GOAL ACHIEVEMENT IDEAS

1.  Measurable - you want to measure your progress and know when you've achieved a goal.

2.  Demanding -  to inspire you to do the best you can do.

3.  Achievable  -  to challenge but not frustrate you.

4.  Written  -  to avoid losing track of your goals.

5.  Deadline -  to give you a sense of urgency.

6.  Flexible  -  so when conditions change you can adjust your goal and your plan - not abandon it.

We must continue to keep trying

Today's message is going to be short but powerful so my hope is that you will read this many times because what we all need is understanding what it takes to improve our future.

"To fail is a natural consequence of trying.  To succeed takes time and prolonged effort in the face of unfriendly odds. To think it will be any other way, no matter what you do, is to invite yourself to be hurt and to limit your enthusiasm for trying again.

Your bounce-back rate will depend on how quickly you move from DISAPPOINTMENT  To  DETERMINATION."

Do you need information or experience?

When I first got into this business I felt I needed help with learning what is it that I have to be doing. Basically as I reflect back in my mind what I felt I needed was more information. I certainly didn't have the skills I would need, but I had the desire to learn.

It doesn't take long to get information because it's just a simple matter of asking some questions, going to meetings, taking advantage of CDs, DVDs and webinars. Once we have some answers or ideas it's a matter of putting ourselves to work.

There are a couple principles I picked up along the way that helped me with understanding and inspired me to get busy and do what has been suggested by my upline leaders.

Principle #1 - Most people seem to keep wanting more information  regardless of what they are taught about taking action.   What is really needed is more experience, not more information.

Principle #2 - Some people seem to think they have to learn everything before they take action. You don't learn everything before you take action, you learn as you are taking action.

I believe you'll grow yourself and your business much faster if you decide you're going to get started and get the needed experience.

You can't coach effort

When I was teaching at a high school in Wisconsin I was also coaching 9th grade basketball, baseball, and was the head football coach for a couple years. I then went to the University of North Dakota as a graduate assistant on the football staff.

What I learned was you can't coach effort. Kids or people will either do it or they won't. Of course the individuals who worked the hardest were always the ones that improved the most. Some just didn't like to work hard, but they loved being on a team and we had a lot of fun.

What I would like to suggest is ask yourself some questions and have some good conversations with yourself.  Do I really want what this company is offering? Am I willing to put in the effort it will probably take to be successful? Am I willing to ignore negativity? Who can help me learn what it is I have to do? Do I have the time to put in the effort? I will have to make the time if this is going to work.

Think about it. You'll never regret putting in the effort to build your future.
