I was in a conversation a week or so ago and was asked "How do I motivate people?" That is the same question I asked myself in the early stages of trying to build our business. Somewhere along the way I came across a principle that suggests it isn't me that might motivate people - it's not about "how do I" motivate people. I think the best question is what motivates people. The answer very simply is IDEAS motivate people. Some people talk loudly to motivate or maybe they talk faster thinking that is the answer. Maybe both are correct. I like to think that if we can put the right idea in front of the right person, they will get excited.
For example, in 1970, I was a young guy who had a job but didn't have much of a future. What happened is I went to a guy's home and he showed me an IDEA. It wasn't a product, it wasn't that he was a motivating guy, it wasn't about the company, it was the idea that I could build something, not just sell something. That's what compelled me to decide to check out this IDEA.
Shaklee is a great idea! Better health is also a great idea. Helping others is another idea. Unlimited income is an awesome idea. Living debt free is another idea. Becoming self-employed is another idea. Earning a car payment is a fun idea. Earning incentives that award fun travel excites some people.
So what's the point? IDEAS MOTIVATE PEOPLE. With the company we have and the awesome products we have to work with, and the possibilities about earning more than we might need, we have tons of ideas to put in front of people. So get out there and show people all the great ideas you have to offer.
Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke
