The following comes from the book Your Best Year Ever by Michael Hyatt. He says the following.
I want to address why we should bother writing our goals. Since written goals are the foundation on which you build your best year ever. Professor Gail Matthews conducted her own study and confirmed the power of writing down your goals. Matthews discovered the
mere act of writing one’s goals boosted achievement by 42 percent.
Committing to your goals is the foundation for success for at least four reasons.
1. It forces you to clarify what you want.
2. Writing down goals helps you overcome resistance.
3. It motivates you to take action.
4. It filters other opportunities and help you to focus.
When we first got involved in Shaklee I started reading various books and every book I read had chapters on writing out your goals. I had goals but before this I had never really put my goals on paper. I decided to follow the idea for writing out my Shaklee goals and I believe that was one of the major reasons for our success.
I also made a decision that I would update my goals on paper on the flight home from the annual Shaklee Conference. I did that for many years because I was always inspired at the conference and I liked the idea of putting my new goals on paper. All I can tell you is that I’m thankful I decided to do what the experts talked about in their books. Write out your goals.
Do you have your 2018 goals on paper? Think about it. I suggest that you consider writing out your goals and read them every day as that will remind you how you can have your best year ever.
Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke
