Do you have your goals on paper?

The following comes from the book Your Best Year Ever by Michael Hyatt.   He says the following.

I want to address why we should bother writing our goals.  Since written goals are the foundation on which you build your best year ever.  Professor Gail Matthews conducted her own study and confirmed the power of writing down your goals.  Matthews discovered the
mere act of writing one’s goals boosted achievement by 42 percent.

Committing to your goals is the foundation for success for at least four reasons.
1.      It forces you to clarify what you want.
2.      Writing down goals helps you overcome resistance.
3.      It motivates you to take action.
4.      It filters other opportunities and help you to focus.

When we first got involved in Shaklee I started reading various books and every book I read had chapters on writing out your goals.   I had goals but before this I had never really put my goals on paper.   I decided to follow the idea for writing out my Shaklee goals and I believe that was one of the major reasons for our success.

I also made a decision that I would update my goals on paper on the flight home from the annual Shaklee Conference. I did that for many years because I was always inspired at the conference and I liked the idea of putting my new goals on paper. All I can tell you is that I’m thankful I decided to do what the experts talked about in their books. Write out your goals.

Do you have your 2018 goals on paper? Think about it. I suggest that you consider writing out your goals and read them every day as that will remind you how you can have your best year ever.

A great message and example

The following message is a message we received from Doris Johnson.  Doris has been a Shaklee sales leader
for about 44 years.   Faye read this message and asked me to send this out as a daily message because it's such a great story.

Enthusiastically,

Gary Burke

Nice zoom! glad you are doing these it's nice to see your face. for the record I'm 91 yrs. old not 94 ha ha ha I count my blessings that you and Faye took the time to share Shaklee with me - you both changed my life. I think about that sometimes, there is someone out there waiting for what we all have to offer and it's just my job to show up, to find them, to keep talking. they are counting on me. It's like I'm their hope, that's my job to be hope (and a few other things)  :)

What is your answer to the two questions?

Sir Edmund Hillary, New Zealand mountain climber and Antarctic explorer who, with the Tibetan mountaineer Tenzing Norgay, was the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953.

“It all comes down to motivation.  If you really want to
do something, you will work hard for it.”
                                                                    Sir Edmund Hillary

So here is the question for today to start the week off.  What is it you want to do?    What is it you want to become?   What have you been dreaming about doing some day?   Maybe today  Is that “Some day…….”
I have learned that it really isn’t hard work to have something that deep down you really want.

When I first found Shaklee I wasn’t looking for something like this business but for some reason
I decided to check it out.  I went to meetings, sat in the back row and took notes.  I met people who seemed to be having fun building this business and the more I heard about this great company who has now been around for over 60 years, the more I wanted everything that Shaklee offered.

What I decided was I wanted to do whatever it took to build this business.  I also decided that I wanted to become a Master Coordinator.   The amazing thing to me is working at building this business has never, that’s right never, felt like work.  I think the answer to that was it didn’t feel like work because I had the opportunity to build our future.  If it was to be it would be up to me and I guess I loved the challenge.

Think about it.  You have the opportunity to literally change your future.  Kind of an awesome thought isn’t it?   So back to the questions, what is it you want to do and what is it you want to become?

Go for it!  You’ll never regret it!

You will grow

The following was  in the Minneapolis newspaper in the sports section a couple days ago.  A University of Minnesota basketball player made this very interesting comment about what it takes to go through a season where loses were more than the wins.

“You will grow through what you go through.”

Going through seasons when everything seems to be great but then things happens and it feels like the world is going south.   This happens in sports and it happens in business.  Read that quote one or two more times or until you really get what this is saying.

While you are building your business there will be days, weeks and some times months when things don’t seem to be working.  The formula for growth is saying that we will have to go through those seasons and at the same time we have to keep up the effort because there are always great days, weeks and months ahead for us.   There are always bumps in the road.  Everyone has those days when we question what we’re doing.

Talk to anyone you know who is successful in what they do and ask them about failures.  I guarantee they have experienced failures.  That’s just part of life.   Things happen.  But sticking with the plan for succeeding is the answer.   Things will change for the positive as long as we continue to stay positive while we continue to experience those bumps in the road.

Always remember: “You will grow through what you go through.”

Great results don't just happen

Greetings,

We know we have an incredible opportunity to help ourselves as well as helping other people with better health and more income.   Of course it takes desire and then it’s a matter of following a formula that will help guide us down the right road so we can experience success.  I believe the following quote from the book, YOUR BEST YEAR EVER  by Michael Hyat tis simple but at the same time very powerful for a person who truly desires to change their business.

Great results don’t just happen.  You don’t usually drift to a destination you would have chosen.  Instead, you have to be intentional, force yourself to get clear on what you want and why it’s important, and then pursue a plan of action that accomplishes your objective.

The above starts out by kind of grabbing our attention.  Great results don’t just happen.  Oh really! We know that. So the question is are you ready to make a change to make this year your best year ever? It won’t be easy but then nothing worthwhile is easy.   But it will be worth your time and effort. This is one of those messages that I suggest you copy and keep handy so when you are ready to make a difference you will have the steps you’ll need to follow.

The two rivals of change

Faye heard the following words on a TV ad and passed it on to me as she thought it might make a good message to send out - "Every challenge has two rivals: Belief & Doubt."

The first couple years building our business were certainly a challenge as we were learning as each month passed by. At times I wasn’t sure I could build this business and at other times it was very exciting to find people that wanted a new future. Kind of a roller-coaster ride. But we saw other people were building and making it work and that was what was very encouraging.

Doubt wasn’t much of an issue because we saw lots of people becoming sales leaders and then on to Coordinator, Key and Master.  If there was doubt it wasn’t because we thought the business wouldn’t work, I knew that I just had to learn the process and stick with the idea that we just had to follow the leaders who had built to where they wanted to be. We did that.

When I think back our belief became very strong and I got to the point where I didn’t care who might say something negative because we had made our decision to move forward and there wasn’t anyone or anything that was going to stop us from getting to Master Coordinator.

If there was doubt I remember where it might have been because we decided to build two new sales leaders a year until we got to Master. At times I probably did have some doubt but we did build two new sales leaders a year every year for eight years.

Here is my belief.  If you have 2000 PV you can have 4000 PV.  If you have 5000 PV you can have 10,000 PV. If you have 10,000 PV you can have 20,000 PV. You just have to believe that you can duplicate what it is you did to get to the PV level you currently at, do it again, and again, until you are where you dream about being.  If you are a Director you can get to Coordinator. If you are a Coordinator you can get to Executive Coordinator. Then on to Key and Master Coordinator.

Go for it!  You can make it happen!

Gary Burke

The Optimist Creed

The following is what has been labeled THE OPTIMIST CREED.   I suggest you take a few minutes and read each point slowly and maybe underline your favorites.
- Gary Burke
PROMISE YOURSELF……
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something to them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only the best, to work for the best and expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and to give everyone you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

If you think...

Greetings,

The following came from the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.  I first read this book over 40 years ago and can recall the first time I read the following verses.   For me it was very inspiring then and it is today as well.

“If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don’t
If you like to win, but you think you can’t
It almost certain you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost
For out of the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will,
It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are.
You’ve got to think high to rise,
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.

“Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or fastest man,
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN.”

It's about making a decision

The following thoughts or ideas came from the book Maximize Your Influence by
Ken Houts.

Your future will not be determined by your past experiences.
Your future will not be determined by your present circumstances
Your future will be determined by your vision.

When there is no vision, people are unmotivated.
When there is no vision, people are undisciplined.
When there is no vision, people are unproductive.

I remember a special meeting I attended some time in our first year in this business. I heard an idea from a Master Coordinator and that created a vision for me and what I know is a new vision creates enthusiasm and passion. That is exactly what happened to me. What follows being excited about a new idea is making a decision. Being excited isn’t the key for making progress. Making a quality decision to achieve a new vision regardless of what obstacles you might face is the key as far as I’m concerned.

After a quality decision has been made the next step is to create your plan. So here is my question, do you have a simple plan for what you want to accomplish before the end of February? Why not take some time and write out a simple plan. I think you’ll be glad you did.

Two principles that can be helpful

The following two principles are very powerful once you understand what they mean.
I suggest you read these a few times and think.  Just think until you really have a grasp of
what they mean to you.

This business is about talking to people about great ideas. I recall that during my early years
I was very hesitant because I just didn’t feel like I knew enough and what if someone asks me lots of questions?  YIKE!   The two principles below would have made such a difference for me and I’m positive they can help many of you who want to start doing what you are capable of doing.

You can’t say the right thing to the wrong person
And you can’t say the wrong thing to the right person.

You learn as you go, not before you go.

Some simple thoughts

Your greatest asset is being consistent.  Once you’ve found what you really want to do it’s a matter of making a decision that no matter what, this is what I’m going to do. If you believe that building a highly successful Shaklee business is what you want, then make your decision and of course set your goals.

I consider the following some steps that will help anyone build themselves and their future.
1.      The right mindset to do whatever it takes.  Think about what’s possible.
2.      Develop the skills  -  It will take practice.  Are you ready?
3.      Are you ready to be consistent with your efforts?

What I remember most when I think back to when we got started was the fact I just didn’t feel confident. What would come to mind would be the simple idea that if we were going to make it in this business then we had to recognize that we had to put in the reps and learn. Confidence grows from getting out there and start talking to people. It didn’t take long for our confidence to grow.

The same is true today. It’s a matter of being willing to learn. Working hard. Be consistent with your efforts and as time goes by you’ll find that all that effort was worth it. You’ve just got to convince yourself that this business is for you and then stick with it and make it happen.
