A man's reach

During my first year of teaching in 1965, I started reading what today are called self-help books. I read something that has stuck with me all these years in one of those books. The day I read this Robert Browning quote, I wrote it down on a small piece of paper and carried it with me for over 30 years. I would look at it every once in a while and it always seemed to help me to think.

"Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?"

When I would read this I always did the same thing and that was to stretch my left hand straight out in front of me - that's my grasp. Let's look at this in today's world. Did I do enough today?   Am I pushing myself to achieve my goals? Am I doing the absolute best I can do? If not, what is it that's holding me back from exceeding expectations? Am I making progress? What are my expectations? Why not work to exceed them?

It's such a simple concept but at the same time it is very powerful. Just think what would happen to this company if every sales leader would reach out and exceed their expectations. Also, just think of the example you will be for all the people in your downline. It's worth considering.

Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke
