I’m sure everyone has heard about making New Years resolutions, or making promises to make this new year more productive. I’ve mentioned in a previous message that setting goals makes more sense to me than New Year’s resolutions. I’ve been down that path many times over the years when I was younger and all I can recall is the idea about making a resolution didn’t last very long.
When I got started in this business I read books and listened to successful people and the subject of having goals always seemed to be talked about. Not resolutions. I decided to learn about setting goals and I read several books about setting goals and then I focused on what path I decided could get me to Master Coordinator. In my view that was the best thing I did in those early years. Focus. I wanted what Shaklee offered.
Goals work because they help you filter out things that don’t matter and stay focused on the things that do matter. What I learned about setting goals was if I would keep them in front of me, read them over and over every day, for weeks and months, I would have a better chance of being successful.
My goals were simple, learn what the fundamentals for building a successful business were and stick to those fundamentals. Probably the smartest thing I did was I kept my focus on those fundamentals. Many people keep jumping around from one idea to the next idea and it’s difficult to succeed when we jump from one thing to another. Sticking to learning the fundamentals was the right path for me.
I have a suggestion. Read a book or two about personal development and you will learn about setting your goals. Readers are leaders and leaders are readers.
Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke
