Gary's Favorite Quote

In a issue of SUCCESS there are several quotes about success, a few of which I've included below today's messageI don't know what you do with quotes or ideas that have the potential to inspire  but over the years I have saved many so I can read them later. During my first year of teaching in 1964 is when I found a quote by Robert Browning that still remains my all-time favorite: "Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?"

I can still remember very vividly the first time I read it. I was at my little apartment and I stretched out my right arm and looked at my grasp and thinking, what am I reaching for? What are you reaching for? Always remember that whatever it is it's just beyond your grasp which means there is work to be done.

“Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.” - Dale Carnegie

“Every pessimist who ever lived has been buried in an unmarked grave. Tomorrow has always been better than today, and it always will be.” - Paul Harvey

“Before success comes to most people, they are sure to meet with some success, and perhaps some failure. When faced with defeat, the easiest and the most logical thing to do is to quit. That’s exactly what the majority of people do.” - Napoleon Hill

When is the best time?

The best time to read this message is now

There are times when I read something and it just kind of jumps off the page. I had that again this AM so I hope this makes you think about what to do and when to do it. Simple stuff but interesting.
The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now.
The best time to call someone was last month. The second best time is now.
The best time to build this business was in 1970. The second best time is now.
The best time to achieve your goals was last year. The second best time is now.
The best time to make a commitment to achieve was when you first got started. The second best time is now.

Enthusiastically,

Gary Burke

Getting started is the answer

The following quote has the answer to what it takes to be successful and it’s really quite simple. It’s never easy but the answer to what it takes won’t surprise you.

“Often we are caught in a mental trap of seeing enormously successful people and thinking they are where they are because they have some special gift.  Yet a closer look shows that the greatest gift that highly successful people have over the average person is their ability to get themselves to take action.”
- Tony Robbins

Is it really that simple? The secret for today is for you to make a decision for what you will do to make January a special month.  Once you get yourself to take action it’s easy to continue so the biggest decision is to decide what actions you will start today. Getting started is the key because once you’ve started it’s so much easier to continue. Go for it!

Gary Burke

New thinking and new behaviors

I believe we have an incredible opportunity to change lives by getting healthier and for many people to change their financial situation in a huge way. This opportunity is exactly that, there is no ceiling but there is a secret and it is this – If you want what Shaklee has to offer you will have to do the work. I hesitate using the word secret but it’s true, it’s all about doing whatever it takes. Doing the work.

Do you have goals you read every day?  Do you need to refresh your current goals?  Here is another secret, new goals require two things
1.  New thinking.
2.  New behavior

Here is something you can do over the weekend. Just answer some questions.
What for you would be new thinking?   And what would be the new behaviors?
Activity always starts with new thinking. My guess is that most of you who might be reading this message already know exactly that it starts with some new thoughts.

I’ll give some examples.  Here’s a great thought - why don’t we talk to three new people before this weekend ends about the products or maybe about earning an extra $1000 to $8000 a month? Maybe making calls would be new behavior. I think you get the picture. Write out what your new thinking will be, then do the same with behaviors.

I wonder how many of you will actually take the time to consider what new thinking and new behaviors will be? Have a great weekend.

Are you an entrepreneur?

I attended a conference in Las Vegas a couple months ago and there was a speaker who talked about what an entrepreneur was. Of course that's what we are in this business and the following is how he described an entrepreneur:

ENTREPRENEUR : Is going against the grain.
Is going against people who don’t believe in you.
                                 A new way of thinking.
                                 Controlling your own destiny.
                                 Thinking outside the box.
Can be whatever you decide to be.

The other points I got from this one talk was, there is no losing, only learning.
There is no failure, only opportunities.  No problems, only solutions.

Are you an entrepreneur?

It's time to get started on 2018

I’m sure everyone has heard about making New Years resolutions, or making promises to make this new year more productive.  I’ve mentioned in a previous message that setting goals makes more sense to me than New Year’s resolutions.  I’ve been down that path many times over the years when I was younger and all I can recall is the idea about making a resolution didn’t last very long.

When I got started in this business I read books and listened to successful people and the subject of having goals always seemed to be talked about.   Not resolutions.  I decided to learn about setting goals and I read several books about setting goals and then I focused on what path I decided could get me to Master Coordinator.  In my view that was the best thing I did in those early years.  Focus.  I wanted what Shaklee offered.

Goals work because they help you filter out things that don’t matter and stay focused on the things that do matter.   What I learned about setting goals was if I would keep them in front of me, read them over and over every day, for weeks and months, I would have a better chance of being successful.

My goals were simple, learn what the fundamentals for building a successful business were and stick to those fundamentals.  Probably the smartest thing I did was I kept my focus on those fundamentals. Many people keep jumping around from one idea to the next idea and it’s difficult to succeed when we jump from one thing to another.  Sticking to learning the fundamentals was the right path for me.

I have a suggestion.  Read a book or two about personal development and you will learn about setting your goals.  Readers are leaders and leaders are readers.
