What it takes to change yourself and your business

The quote I'm sending today comes from the book I strongly recommended a couple messages ago.  The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins.  In her book she describes how she wanted to change herself and her life.

"Change requires you to do things that feel hard and scary.  Change requires courage and confidence and I was tapped out of both."

COURAGE
The ability to do something that is difficult and scary
Stepping outside of your comfort zone
Sharing your ideas, speaking up, or showing up
Standing firm in your beliefs and values
And some days......getting out of bed

I know that many of us in this business can relate with the idea that to move forward takes courage.   Time and time again.  But that's how it works.  The more you do something that seems difficult and scary, the closer you are getting to success.   It's all a part of the process.

YOU CAN MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.   GO FOR IT!

Simple but powerful

The following is a basic fundamental for succeeding at anything.  Think about it.  Very simple but also very effective.

"You've got to ask. Asking is, in my opinion, the world's most powerful and neglected secret to success and happiness."
- Percy Ross, self-made, multi-millionaire and philanthropist

Ask for an appointment
Ask if they have heard of Shaklee
Ask if they know someone who might want to earn  $$$$
Ask if they would attend a meeting with you
Ask if they would like to feel better
Ask if they would look at a great idea.

What it takes to experience personal growth

I think that almost everyone has  faced doing something that wasn't comfortable or maybe even kind of scary. When I look back I'm sure I have a pretty long list of things I had to do that for me was  very uncomfortable or scary...speech class in college, asking a girl for a date, boot camp in the Marine Corps, my first week of teaching, the first few times I was asked to speak at a meeting....  Make your list of what you had to do and felt very uncomfortable.

What it takes to become an "over-comer" is courage. Stepping out to do something we've never done before and moving forward and doing it is major personal growth. I personally believe that one of the major benefits of growing this business is what we as individuals become. Not so much what we get, but what we become. The following was found in the book, The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins.

EVERY DAY COURAGE

Courage is the ability to do things that feel difficult, scary, or uncertain.

Courage is inside of us.  And it's waiting for you to discover it.

One moment of courage can change your day.  One day can change your life.  And one life can change the world.

That's the true power of courage; it reveals you.

Discover your courage, and you will be capable of accomplishing and experiencing anything you dream about.

Perseverence

The following are some very inspiring words from Lindsey Klein.  She is writing to everyone on her team as a response to the Tuesday message I sent.  Lindsey's comments are especially thoughtful and in my opinion one of the best messages I've read.

Enthusiastically,

Gary Burke

Hi Gary- I needed this today!!
I always forward what you write to my team and include additional thoughts. This is what came of it today. Wanted to share! Feeling inspired as I have had a week of set backs myself. Thank you for your message today and every day!
---------------------------------
Hi Team Perseverance!
Love this message from Gary!
I especially love when our team name comes into play!!
This is what perseverance means... never give up and do it anyway, no matter the circumstances. If you have made your mind up about something, then do it. Envision what you want and go after it. It is not enough to hope for it to happen. You have to believe it, act upon it and go after it no matter what life throws at you. Will there be set backs? Absolutely. Will there be times when you can't give as much as you wanted? Of course, just make up for it by pushing harder when you can. Will there by people who doubt you, your intentions, your abilities, your strength to endure? Unfortunately, yes. Will there be people cheering you on? EVERY.STEP.OF.THE.WAY!!
If you believe it, in your heart of hearts... then go out and do it!!!

Abundantly,
Lindsey

Do it anyway!

The following has been available in a number of books over the years and it's worth sharing this with you just in case you've never read this before.

People who have perseverance "do it anyway!"  I challenge you to live by these Paradoxical Commandments by Kent Smith.

You will find that people are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered, yet you love them anyway!

If you do good, you will be accused of selfish motives.  Do good anyway!

Success will win you false friends and true enemies, succeed anyway!

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.  Do good anyway!

The biggest people with the biggest ideas can be shot down by mental midgets with the smallest ideas.  Think big anyway!

Giving the world the best you have may get you kicked in the teeth.  Give the world your best anyway!

Be persistent!  Never....never....never give up!  It's always too soon to quit.

Gary Burke

It's about time

While reading a book this past week I came across one word several times: attitude. I think everyone knows that attitude is important and it's one of two things - positive or negative. Simple but not always easy. I know that over the years I have personally experienced both types of attitude and I'm sure most of you have as well. The following are descriptions of the word attitude from a book by John Hagee.

PROFILE OF AN ATTITUDE

Your attitude is an inward feeling expressed by outward behavior. Your attitude is seen by all without you saying a word.

Your attitude is the advance man of your true self. The roots of your attitude are hidden, but its fruit is always visible.

Your attitude is your best friend or your worst enemy. It draws people to you or repels people from you.

Here is a interesting question: have you ever been around a person or a group who seemed negative to you? On the other hand can you think of the time you were around people and it was fun because it was a positive experience? Here is a dumb question: which group would you be attracted to? Me too!

So the message is if we want to draw people to this business and/or the products, it's very clear that people are drawn to a positive environment with positive attitude.  For me Shaklee has been a very positive experience and I have loved every minute of being involved.

Network marketing - it's not perfect, it's just better!

If people truly understood residual income, they would walk through a brick wall to get to it!  Robert Kiyosaki once said, "The average person goes to work, while the wealthy build networks." Most economic experts agree that the key to getting ahead, in today's economic world climate, is by investing in 'Income Producing Assets.'
And unlike other business venture, network marketing is one of the only businesses on the planet that requires little capital to get started - your investment is your time. There is minimal risk, minimal overhead, and zero employees. According to MLM icon Richard Brooke, "A Network Marketing business, done right, and in the right company - allows you to build a lifetime, steady flow of pure residual income, regardless of your personal involvement." AKA: Making Money while you Sleep!
And consider this, your NM asset can be worth 10 to 20 times the annual income you receive from it! Example: $5,000 per month, over a period of 12 months = $60,000 passive dollars per year. And could conservatively be valued at $600,000 dollars, or more!
Just curious, how long would it take you to save $600,000? How many hours, days and weeks do you have to put in over the course of a year to earn a $60k per year income?
Network Marketing.....It's not perfect, it's just better!!!!

Asking yourself questions

I believe that asking yourself good questions can be one of the most important things a person can do for themselves. The reason I say that is because it's important to keep yourself focused on doing the things you know you should be doing if you want your business to grow.

Here are some examples that might be of use for you:
Am I keeping myself encouraged and inspired?
Do I know what it takes to build and grow?
Do I have a plan to follow to help me stay on track?
    Do I accept challenges?
Do I buy into the principle that accepting challenges equals change?
Am I willing to do whatever it takes to build this business?
Who can I talk to on a regular basis who can help me stay focused and be a mentor for me?

I have a suggestion for you: read the above questions and pick out two or three and write out your answer. Maybe you'll discover that you need that mentor person to help you to get yourself moving in the right direction.

4 steps that lead to achievement

About 20 years ago I did a 2 hour training about achievement.  I came across some of the points I made and I want to share them with you.
4 Steps That Lead To Achievement
1. THINKING DIFFERENT  -  Allowing yourself to think bigger. What would be different thinking for you?
2.  EXPAND YOUR VISION  -  Be able to see beyond today's problems. Focus on what can be not just what is.
3.  BE WILLING TO STRETCH  -  Be willing to put yourself into situations that might be uncomfortable. What would be uncomfortable for you?
4.  LEARN HOW TO HANDLE SETBACKS & DISAPPOINTMENTS - How will you react to perceived failure? Learn how to keep yourself inspired despite setbacks. Understand that failure is part of the process for becoming successful.

Today starts a new month - make it a great one

I've been sitting here kind of pondering what can I say today and I just feel kind of stuck.  What I've learned over the years is that if I just get myself started I'll get an idea.  How about if we think about what is it we want our business to look like at the end of March?

Are you satisfied with what you accomplished in 2016? Two months have already passed by so my hope for you is that your January and February has been a good start for 2017.  Getting ourselves started is our job every day. Some days are better than others and some days it takes a bigger effort to get ourselves going. So let's get with it.

I'm sure you intend to do something today; why not decide right now that today is going to be a terrific day for talking to someone about an idea how their lives can be changed? Did you know that Shaklee changes lives? It certainly has changed mine that's for sure. How about you? Do you really believe that this business can be a blessing to that person you will be seeing today? Remember, if you don't ask, the answer is always no.

Make today a great day for someone you know.

Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke
