Daily Message - May 13

It’s GrOw Time

Greetings,

I was in a conversation earlier today about how to be more successful.  The topic of problems came up – there are always problems.  Sometimes we call problems roadblocks – or setbacks.  When we stay the course; working our way through the problems, roadblocks or setbacks we gain confidence.  With confidence comes the ability overlook problems while keeping our eyes on our goals and the work we need to do.

Another name for problems is challenges – expect them – learn to overcome them – learn to be motivated by them.

For example, I’ve often talked with successful people who tell me they were motivated to achieve by being told they wouldn’t amount to anything.  Or, how about those of you in Shaklee who have heard that you can’t make this Shaklee thing work.

Sure, it would be nice if everyone would pat us on the back and tell us we are going to do great things.  But that’s not always how it is – it doesn’t matter – you can do great things anyway.  There’s nothing wrong with being motivated a little bit by an, “I’ll show them” attitude.

Use whatever is in your life experience to carry you forward – whether it’s positive – or negative.
  • What are your strengths? What have been your successes?  Do you like people?  Are you interested in others?
  • What are your obstacles?  Recruiting?  Following through toward our goals?  What pulls you away from what you want to do?  Are you around too many negative people?

Enthusiastically,

Gary Burke

Leadership - 2nd Installment

In 1980, Gary & I and our friend Earnie Larsen put together 5 booklets entitled, "Blueprints for Growth" - Leadership, Goals, Prospecting, Recruiting, & Training.  We were reminded of them recently by a team of 2 young women who ran across them and have started to use them with their group - they have been loving the info.  So, while some of the material may be dated, even so, we believe the information is still useful for those of you who are looking to move your business forward.  Faye & Gary

PURSUIT OF PERSONAL EXCELLENCE
.....Gary Burke & Earnest Larsen

II.  WHY LEADERSHIP IN SHAKLEE

Why is leadership so necessary in Shaklee?

The reason is because the only way you get to the top is to take may people with you.  Your organization cannot be successful unless your people's organizations are also growing.  The best way for you to be a Coordinator is to make sure 2 of your people also become Coordinators.  Your success is guaranteed in their success!

But you see, the very nature of taking people to the top with you is the essence of leadership.  It is not you dragging them along with you but you motivating, inspiring, giving the encouragement and confidence necessary for them to think THEY can do it.  Leadership in Shaklee is not just to sit back and be amaze at what YOU can do.  The key to leadership is not so much that the leader looks good but that those around the leader look good.  What happens when a true leader passes by is not that others say, "Wow, isn't he/she something!", but that they say, "Wow, I'm something!"  Leadership is the quality whereby others feel better about themselves by having been in contact with you.  The focus is not on you, but them.

Why is this crucial to your Shaklee business?

People you sponsor love the benefits of building a large business, but many doubt they can.  They perhaps KNOW you can succeed, but many doubt they can have the same success.

Perhaps they can very well see themselves getting the benefits, but are the kind of people easily discouraged or lacking the ability to work for long range goals if the short range effort proves difficult.

For any of dozens of reasons, people who could be marvelous in Shaklee aren't.  Some start but quickly settle into no movement at all...some never start at all.

Now let us be quick to point out SHAKLEE IS NOT SOCIAL WORK!  We are not in business to change people.  Trying to be a social worker along with building a successful business is one of the quickest ways to stunt your growth.

What we are saying, is a leader's presence often gets people unstuck and rolling again.  It is the word of encouragement at the right time that may make all the difference.  It may well be just seeing you in a positive frame of mind going about your business, solving the problems and moving on, celebrating the successes ad benefits that will make all the difference to someone sitting on the fence.  Most of the blessings bestowed by a leader are never directly known to them.  It is just WHO they are.  HOW they are, that makes the difference.

You may be the first person who ever believed they could be successful.  Borrowing your belief in them, feeding on it if you will, they begin to believe they can do it too.  And they do.  That's what leaders do...make it possible for others to do more than they ever thought they could.

Why is leadership important in the Shaklee business?  Why was Socrates important for ancient Athens?  Why was Napoleon important for France or George Washington important for Colonial America?  These men were leaders and leaders make things happen.  They are the hub of activity.  And the more intelligent, inspired and channeled that activity, the more productive it is.  Intelligent, inspired, channeled activity producing maximum results is the definition of a successful business.  But this only happens around a leader.  You are the hub of your organization.

...stay tuned for next installment from LEADERSHIP,  "Characteristics of a Leader",  next week

Daily Message - May 9th

It’s GrOw Time

Greetings,

I seem to be attracted to ideas that deal with teams – here’s another one.  I written this one in previous messages but I just jumped out at me again while reading through one of my journals.  I’m confident there is at least one of you reading this who will find it to be valuable.  From former legendary Coach Tom Landry of the Dallas Cowboys.

“My job is to make people do things they don’t want to do,
so they can achieve what they want to achieve.”

In Shaklee, your job is to make yourself do things you don’t want to do so you can achieve the business growth you want to achieve. You need to become your own coach.

Make a list of the 2 or 3 things (those things that are fundamental to success in Shaklee) that you might not want to do.

Then, outline a simple plan that will get you in motion doing those 2 or 3 things.

You can do it.   Decide to make it happen.  You won’t regret it.

Enthusiastically,

Gary Burke

Daily Message - May 6th

It’s GrOTime

Everyone likes to be on a track for growth.  I’ve always wanted what Shaklee offered and I was willing to do what I had to in order to make it work.  So, I had the desire, I was willing to work but I can’t say I had the belief I needed.

A key for me was putting belief into words.
  • I believe I can improve.
  • I believe I can find the help or direction I need to get better.
  • I believe I need to start talking to people about the Shaklee Opportunity.
  • I believe that I can turn small successes into achievement.
What do you believe?
  • Do you put your belief into words?
  • Do you believe you can improve?
  • Do you believe you have a great opportunity to offer the people you talk with about Shaklee?
  • Do you believe small successes will lead to achieving your goals?
This I what I believe ________________________________________.

Put your belief into words – it will make a difference.

Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke

Daily Message - May 1st

It’s GrOTime

This message is about leadership and what it does.  The primary role of a leader is do develop workable skills by which others become productive.   Therefore, the test of a leader is not what he does but what others do as a result of what he does.  That is why it is often said leadership is more caught than taught.                                                            …Earnest Larsen

·       Are you developing workable skills so others in your downline have a role model?
·       Have you been growing your monthly PV?
·       Do you have appointments for this week?

What you want to keep in mind is being a good example for the people in your organization.

Once you are an example for your people, things change because people will want to be building just like you’ve been doing.  Think about it.

Enthusiastically,

Gary Burke

Daily Message

Here we are with a new week for us to be active and decide that growth is our target.  This last week I came across the following quote that I feel is worthy to share it with you to start off the week.

All good things start in the mind: Staying positive  -   Have goals  -
Forward thinking  -  Positive Self talk.

I suggest that you copy those short ideas and read them every day.  All of us need to challenge
ourselves with choices that have potential to help us to move forward.  The first idea is for you
to be ready to encourage yourself and to know what it is that you are striving for.

You may never know what results come from your actions.
But if you take no action, there will be no results.

April 8 Daily Message

It’s time to get ready for your week of activity because growth happens with activity.  Having simple goals is how to get started

Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off your goals.

Getting going during the first of each week is one of the answers for have some growth.
What are your goals going to be this week?  New people?  Increase your weekly PV?  Make
some calls to your downline?

Enthusiastically,
Gary Burke
